The cape is a must-have for the autumn-winter season. It is a versatile, easy to wear garment that instantly gives a chic look!

What I love about the cape is the feeling of freedom, the elegance and the mysterious air it gives!

On the practical side, you can match it with a wide-sleeved jumper that you would never be able to slip into the sleeves of a fitted coat. And if, like me, you're a fan of short or 3/4 sleeves in winter, accessorise it with long woolen mittens or long leather gloves and the style is perfect!

There are different types of capes: circular, mounted, poncho, military style, buttoned, plaids, zipped, slit...

Resolutely chic and trendy, the cape can be worn almost anywhere, as long as you know how to match it. To avoid the "bag" look, think of belting it with a skirt... Wear it loosely with a skinny or mini-short.

In short, the cape is always on trend, and this year, many very different models caught our eye.

At MAYA Patterns, we took a look at this garment and designed our FREEDOM model.

An asymmetrical cape, short in the front and long in the back, with a rounded cut on the sides that does not hinder the arms. Its shape offers a nice scrolled fall on the sides.

For the look, it has a small so chic collar, 2 braids with buckles to accessorise on the shoulders and a contrasting band on the back. A pressured placket also allows you to close the two sides on the front to make it look like a coat.

As for the fabric, you should choose a warm fabric with a nice fall, thick but supple to keep the fluidity of the model, for example: wool, tweed, thick flannel, soft woven...
